It has been such a wonderful trip. We left Calgary on Feb, 14 and enjoyed every day that we spent in this beautiful country. Our plane leaves Auckland at 7:30 pm tomorrow. We have an 11 hour flight to Los Angeles then a 3 hr. Flight to Calgary. I will post one final blog entry when we are safely home.

it is Saturday here but I managed to find a hairdresser that took walk ins so got my hair trimmed. The hairdresser strongly suggested that I get a “zinc test” based on the condition of my hair. You can get that done at a pharmacy here so Avis and I walked over to this particular pharmacy where they give the test for free. They give you a clear liquid in a small cup which you swish around in your mouth For 30 seconds and based on what you taste it indicates if you have a shortage of zinc in your system. We both tested low so we talked to a naturopath who suggested zinc supplements. Unfortunately they were all sold out but she did sell us an effervescent powder that has moderate levels of zinc plus several other healthy things. Very good for flying as it keeps you hydrated and boosts your immune system.

This morning we spent a bit of time wandering through central Orewa and stopped at a cafe for a snack. This afternoon we went to the beach for awhile and then picked up some takeaway fish and chips. Tonight we will be repacking our luggage for flying.

here are a couple of pictures
One of our final outings in public. We had cinnamon brioche at this cafe

there is supposed to be sandcastle competition here tomorrow

What an amazing adventure! Thanks so much for sharing and letting me live vicariously through your blog.
The zinc issue is so interesting. Good to have that boost for your travels back.
I can see they take their sandcastles very seriously there. Pretty cool.
Enjoy the repacking experience and safe travels! Looking forward to the next message when you are both safely home.
